Our Featured Pet...

BONNIE was just a skeleton with fur draped over it, Savaging for food in a parking lot near the Grand Canyon National Park in AZ. Her rescuer picked her up, and took her the the pet boarding motel in the park. They cared for her while trying, five different states, to fine a rescue to take her in. Well... we do have this sweet girl. She came in, still very thin, with a tumor that is now being treated by the Small Animal Veterinary school at OSU. It has a 95% chance of a cure, and will never return. When she is through her treatments there, she will be spayed, updated on her vaccines, and ready for her forever new home and a mush better life. She is SO appreciative, and glad to be alive. She will soon be ready for her forever home, never to starve again. Bonnie's medical care is very expensive, and we are in need of donations to take care of the costs. The kemo is about $2000 alone......but don't you agree that she is SO worth it. Any help you can give will be Greatfully appreciated by us and mostly Bonnie.

Important Notice

I would like to warn all dog lovers out there to be very careful about the dog treats that you give your dogs. Last week I bought a 'Real Ham Bone' made by Dynamic Pet Products of Missouri from Walmart. Here is what it looks like: The label says it is made with '100% Food Grade Ingredients' and it isn't made from China. I thought that meant that this would make a good treat for my dogs. Boy was I wrong. Trace, my dog, enjoyed chewing on this bone. It did not splinter or anything, in fact there is quite a large piece of it still left. Then in the evening she started vomiting. She spent the next day at a veterinarian' s office where she was diagnosed with a blockage of the colon. That night she endured a 4 hour surgery at Brandon Veterinary Specialists where the vet picked out small round pellets of the bone, up to the size of about a b-b. The next morning she was moved to Florida Veterinary Specialist critical care unit. Again in the evening she had another 2 hour surgery, because the blockage had caused poison in her body. She passed away at 4:30 the next afternoon. Everyone who hears this horrible story immediately says 'Well that sounds like a lawsuit to me'. That is what I thought also. Since then, I have learned that is not that easy to sue on behalf of a dog. The lawyers say a dog is a possession just like a couch. So, so far, all I have been able to do is write a certified letter to Dynamic Pet Products of Missouri. In it I requested my vet bills to be paid and their product to be relabeled or preferably removed from the shelf. I don't know if I will get a response. If anyone else has any ideas about how I may address this issue, please let me know at djurgens12@aol. com. In the memory of Trace, please pass this email on to all of the dog lovers that you know. This type of bone is sold in all of the stores under several different manufacturers names. I would assume they all may do the same thing. Even if they don't splinter, they can cause a blockage. So be careful what you buy as a treat. Hugs to all, Moshe & Levi

Wish List

Our shelter's primary food supplier, Petco, will no longer be able to donate from their warehouse in Portland, OR. The shelter is looking for another corporate food sponsor, a process which could take month's. We are hoping that the community will reach out, and help feed these animals while in our care. The shelter needs good quality kitten, cat, puppy and dog food. We often feed more than 40 animals each day. I just hope we can get through it. If you would like to help, Please call Fran Kreger at 541 926-5629, and we can arrange for a drop of ,or pick up (locally) of your most needed quality food donations.

Who We Are

K-9 Homefinders & Rescue, Inc. is a no-kill, non-profit, organization that was started, here in Albany. OR. in 1980, so we have been rescuing dogs for 28 years. For most of that time we were the only dog pound rescue that was saving the dogs out of the Linn County Dog Control. We would run the ad in the newspaper so people would know to check the pound for their dogs before they were killed. There was no Internet, so placement was allot harder. A large number of dogs were being euthanized. We would take allot of the dogs that were due to be euthanized that day, and some we saved when they were walking into the room where they put them down. We paid their fees, to get them out, give them their shots, spay/neuters, and any medical care needed. We are still available for kill-shelter rescue, for adoptable dogs, as space and funds allow (We accept donations, see below for some ways to help). We are also on call if needed when a dog is injured after hours with no owner. We help owners that can't keep their pets, find loving homes for them, by advertising, and taking applications to fine the best homes for them. We are an all volunteer group, solely run by your greatly needed donations.
